Ridgelands Road is the main road that links to the centre of Rockhampton from the airport. For recreation, numerous parks straddle both banks of the Fitzroy River. The town is just over 20 miles from the coast, where Kinka Beach and Emu Park are situated, the latter from where diving can be arranged.

Best time to visit

Rockhampton sees sweltering temperatures for much of the year. Between October and March, temperature averages are above 30°C, with highs that frequently climb above 40°C. Rain and thunderstorms are particularly prevalent in December, January and February. The best times to come are June, July or August, when it remains warm yet mostly dry.
