Although terminal 1 was indicated on the booking. The rental was booked out of terminal 2. After waiting for 90 mins at terminal 1 we had to then go to terminal 2 to collect the car

Lying at altitude in the French southeast, Gap is a pretty little town at the foot of the Upper Alps. It is one of the main gateways to the stunning Les Ecrins National Park to the north and is popular with those looking for car hire in Gap.

The town itself has a nice disposition on the Luye River and is the largest centre in the Southern Alps. It boasts plenty of history, established as it was by the Gauls and then overseen by the Romans in 14 BC. A must-see attraction in the town before heading out in car rental in Gap is the Le Musee Departemental, with its archaeological artefacts.

Those into walking or cycling can also take advantage of the Les Balcons du Gapencais circuit, which encircles the town to the tune of 40kms. It is popular with both cyclists and walkers. Also of note in the town is market day which takes place on a Wednesday and Friday and is where tourists can sample traditional Champsaur pies.

The main attraction with a visit to Gap, however, is to take a drive with cheap car hire in Gap to the outstanding Les Ecrins National Park. It is inherently beautiful, featuring steep mountains and valleys and a whole lot of glaciers and wildlife of the region.

Options for getting active in Les Ecrins National Park include walking, cycling and golfing in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
