Located 10 miles from the Scottish border, Carlisle was also once a fortress city. It is a quaint town that you will surely fall in love with once you see it. The town was built when a Cathedral was erected on the site many years ago. At its center, you'll find red sandstone buildings and Carlisle castle, which was built by the Normans (see image above). On the opposite side of the road is a Friary that was built during the 16th century.
